Chicago Bears are in such a tough spot! Assistant GM Ian Cunningham was really coy when asked about whether they'd take a chance on Jalen Carter in the draft. It's not like they have the No. 9 overall pick and a ton of holes to fill on their team after a disastrous season or anything. No, no, they have all the time in the world to figure out whether they want to draft a talented defensive tackle who's had some character concerns and a rough pro day.
Cunningham was really insightful when he said that the more time you spend around Carter, the more you realize he's a good player AND a person. Who knew that spending time with someone could help you get to know them better? Mind-blowing stuff. And of course, the Bears will make "the best decision for us and our organization." Thanks for clarifying that, Cunningham. I was really worried they were going to make the best decision for someone else's organization.
But wait, there's more! The Bears have a lot of weaknesses to address, like protecting their new quarterback Justin Fields and finding a decent edge rusher. And they could use a disruptive force on the interior of their defensive line, which just happens to be where Jalen Carter plays. Hmm, I wonder if they'll connect the dots on that one.
It's not like the Bears had a chance to draft Carter at No. 1 overall, but they traded down for a star receiver and some draft picks. And now there are concerns about his character AND he had cramps at his pro day? Oh boy, sounds like the Bears are really going to have to weigh their options here.
But fear not, the Bears have 10 picks in the draft, so they have plenty of opportunities to mess this up. They could go for an offensive lineman like Paris Johnson Jr. or maybe take a chance on someone like Broderick Jones or Darnell Wright. Or maybe they'll just use all 10 picks to draft kickers, who knows? The possibilities are endless, and so is their potential for disappointment. Good luck, Bears!
Ian? Why did you say that?
